As a nursing student, we always prepare ourselves for various case studies, drug studies, journal readings and nursing care plans every rotation. But preparation sometimes lead to procrastination, and procrastination leads to panic and rushing for you to submit the requirements before the deadline. That’s where web applications and programs on the computer come and be of service.
There are various web applications and programs here online and on your computer that we use everyday as we struggle to finish our case studies or striving to finish our theses.
Below are some of very helpful and mostly essential things on the computer that make our work easier.
1. The ever-essential Microsoft Office+

Of course, who would be able to get the job done without being able to make documents or presentations on their computer? Well, our partner since time immemorial, Microsoft Office provides applications like MS Word and MS Powerpoint that help us on finishing those case studies and making presentations for the coming defense. Without these innovations from Microsoft, our requirements would still be done through fancy typewriters and presentations have to still be made by hand.
2. The e-mail (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.)
With all the group projects and research papers that we are doing, we student nurses make use of the email to send the documents that we are doing and pass them on to our other group-mates to get the job done. With the option to attach files like presentations and documents, it is perfectly possible and easy for us to complete our projects without waiting or wasting time to travel. Also, email is a convenient way to save your documents that are for printing on computer shops. This way you won’t have to bring your USB flash drives anymore and risk them of getting harmful viruses from the vile and corrupted USB ports of internet cafes.
3. Facebook
Well, I know what you’re thinking, “Why is facebook even on the list?” Well, with groups and pages that student nurses can make on the Facebook page, they can create a bulletin board or an online meeting place for your batchmates, groupmates or classmates. You can communicate to the group and announce any important announcements like deadlines, notices (class suspension, holidays and the like), and exam dates (ugh). This way, no one gets left behind.

Fear not colleagues, for mims.com saves us from all the trouble on racing to the library trying to reserve a place for oh so famous drug handbooks that keep getting borrowed by students. Simply by registering to the website, you are given access to its vast database of drug infos free of charge. Ain’t it a great way to finish your drug study?

5. Microsoft Visio
A dark horse app which is used by only a few. This behind-the-scenes app is commonly used by engineers and architects for making diagrams and blueprints. The good thing is, the interface is easy enough for student nurses to use in making blueprints and maps on Family Case Analysis and Community Diagnosis projects! With Microsoft Visio, you can present your family’s house blueprints in a more presentable and professional manner. You can also use this to make schematic diagrams for your pathophysiology!

6. Dropbox

Dropbox is a more interactive way of sharing files to others! With Dropbox, you get a free 2 gigabyte space to upload your files. You can also make a shared folder that you and your group mates could use to share important files like drafts, documentations, folders and other stuff! With this you can perform group stuff even when you are on your own home and you won’t have to carry a flash drive ever again! All you have to do is sign up, install Dropbox and you’re all set!

7. Evernote

With tons of requirements and reminders that we student nurses receive everyday, we sometimes lose track and forget some of them. That’s why we write them on our notepads. But with the technology of smartphones like the iPhone and Android phones, you can have a virtual notepad on your smartphone and on your computer! Here’s how it works, when you write a reminder on your smartphone, it automatically syncs to all your devices (PC, phone, iPad) so that you can view your notes anytime, anywhere. Just sign up and install the app to your devices and you won’t have to worry about forgetting a reminder again!
