Nursing, The Law of Attraction, and Everything Else in Between

Imagine yourself working as a nurse, arriving into your assigned ward with the intent to start your shift.

“My God, it is terribly quiet today,” you commented. Your colleagues laughed. “Oh no, don’t even think that it will stay that way, in a few minutes it will change, son!” You felt that familiar twinge of fear in your heartstrings. The anxiety you are trying to fight is slowly creeping in, and you feel yourself surrendering to it. You tried to shrug it off as you listen to the handover and for a minute, you think that everything will be okay even if you really don’t believe so.

Fifteen minutes later, all hell breaks loose. Everyone in your ward seems to be screaming, shouting, complaining, and before you know it, the quiet you’ve noticed in the beginning just seems to be avoiding you at all.

Sounds familiar? It could have happened differently, but at one point in our nursing career, we have heard of stories where people dread being on the same shift with Doctor. More so working with him is always a chore, and all toxic cases seem to emerge whenever he is around. But having nurse Jane is invariably lovely to have with as the shift is always relaxed whenever she is on duty.

Why is that, you ask? Have you ever had that time when you just think that ‘the shift will be grand tonight,’ and luckily, the shift just flew by without any fuss! And you say, wow, that was a great feeling that I can influence my reality by thinking positive thoughts.

Now, what am I talking about, really? I am talking about our ability to create our own reality. I am talking about the universal law of attraction. Anybody who has ever read the book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne will have an idea about this topic, which stipulates that we have been creating our reality by the mere power of our thoughts, and our thoughts are affecting the future that is coming for us.

And I firmly believe that we, as nurses and as people, can help manipulate our reality to work for us positively. This is a powerful thing to harness once you know how to shift your thoughts or the vibes around you to your benefit.

How does the Law of Attraction work?

All that we are is a result of what we have thought.
– Buddha

Have you ever met a person who seems to have the power to make everything he or she says to be the absolute truth? Everything they say or think just became their reality!

The law of attraction in other terms means like attracts like. What you are thinking and feeling right now is going to be your reality. If you are pessimistic, then more negativity will come into your life. If you are guiding yourself to a positive path, then you will harvest most positive events towards you. In other words, we have to be careful with what we think as it will definitely come true.

So many philosophers and famous, successful people have in one way or another, have mentioned and believed of this power that is inherent in every one of us. And that is why this is called “The Secret.” It was said that these successful people have been using the law all their life, and they just kept mum about it.

All of us are made of infinite energy: we are all spiritual beings, and we are all connected to a divine source of energy that has one primary goal in mind: to give us what we want!

But this so-called higher energy, or God, or the universe, or whatever you would like to call it, is a bit difficult to deal with as well. It doesn’t understand that we only want positive things to happen in our life. It sees the negative thoughts as well, and thinks that that is what we want!

The more negative your thoughts are, the more the Universe would think, “Ahh! So you want more of that because you are thinking of that all the time.” So the universe will continue to give you more of the adverse events, which in turn will make you feel more crap than before. And this cycle will continue, and you will continue to feel bad about your life, and your life will spiral downwards further until you feel like you are a hopeless case until you give up. Sounds familiar, yeah?

But it is not too late. We can surely get what we want, but we are also able to delay the manifestation of our desires with doubts, negativity, and fear.

The law of attraction is working for you right at this very minute. Whether you are just watching television and your favorite movie came on, or whether you got stuck in traffic for the past 30 minutes, or by merely reading this article right now – that is the manifestation of your thoughts. The law will always lead you to the next event that it thinks would be a match to your thoughts.

Start manifesting what you want right now!

Okay. So maybe you are stuck in a lousy nursing job with a meager pay, or you are somewhat in need of help in passing the NCLEX examination, or you are only taking it one day at a time on the path towards your life goals and heart’s desires. I am telling you, if you choose right now to be the creator of your reality, all of these bad vibes and bad events around you will start to shift for the better if you change your way of thinking.

To save you from reading all those books that are mainly focused on the laws surrounding our reality (which I had done because I am that desperate to change my reality for the better), I will outline here are the essential points that you need to know to start attracting your goals into your hands.

1. Visualize the outcome and focus on how it would make you feel.

When you visualize, then you materialize. If you’ve been there in the mind, you’ll go there in the body.
– Dr. Denis Waitley

Let’s say you want to pass the NCLEX examination. The main gist of this law is to focus on what you want. When you lose your focus, the universe will think that you do not want it that much, so it will delay your desire’s manifestation. So, you focus on the end goal: You visualize in your mind’s eye that you are sitting comfortably on the chair in front of the computer, and you see in front of you on the computer screen that you have just passed the NCLEX examination. And you see yourself screaming, “Woohoo! I did it! I passed the NCLEX with one shot!”

But that is not the only thing that you need to focus on. One of the main ingredient to make your manifestation effective during visualization is to feel what it would feel like if you have just passed the examination. Maybe you would want to feel a sense of fulfillment, or feel a sense of pride that your parents are happy with what you have achieved, or feel the recognition that this will open up new opportunities for you in the future. Do some visualization at least once a day, or more if you want. Just make sure that when you visualize, you have to feel the excitement, the relief, the warm fuzzies, and the joy that it would give you once you have achieved your desire.

2. Let go of the doubts and simply have 100% blind faith.

“The universe likes speed. Don’t delay, don’t second-guess, don’t doubt.”
– Rhonda Byrne, The Secret

Sometimes, we feel so confident and positive in the head, but our hearts are still holding on to the fear and doubts. Now, this is where the real internal work begins. It would sound easy to say, “yeah, I am positive every day, I can do this law of attraction thingy, this is so darn easy,” then suddenly, a negative thought arises and you find yourself spiralling back to square one, all feeling miserable and doubtful and screaming “I am not good enough, I am sure to fail.”

As what Abraham Hicks said (a master life coach of the law of attraction – you should check her videos on youtube), all we can simply do is just to simply shift that negative thought and turn it into something a bit positive, like by telling yourself that “Ahh. Sure, you know what, I do believe that everything is going to be alright, THINGS ARE ALWAYS WORKING OUT FOR ME.”

Continue this practice and say that mantra at least a hundred times a day if you are just starting until the thought will remain in your subconscious. The technique here is to trick your brain into believing that anything is possible when you have trust in your dreams.

3. Giving joy and love to other people is the ultimate goal.

“Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.
Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.
Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.”
– Gandhi

One of the ways that you can make the law of attraction work for you is to give acts of kindness to anyone. Being extra generous is a sure way to harbor good karma.

It will always feel good to be extra loving and generous to other people. And as the saying goes, “If you give love around, then back around it goes.”

4. Be happy and strive to feel good most of the time.

Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.
– Albert Einstein

“The universe never asked you to struggle. It is simply answering your mood.” Anonymous

On times you are feeling miserable, accept and honor that feeling and do not shove it in a corner. Acknowledge it and then release it. Meditation, at least once a day, helps to be at peace with your thoughts. After this process, do something that can shift that feeling into something that will make you feel good. People find it also helps to do a short walk or run, appreciating nature, watching your favorite movie or playing with your pets. Singing to your heart’s content is surprisingly therapeutic too! Every small thing that helps you feel better is essential for your intentions to manifest faster. Remember: “Like attracts like.”

Now it doesn’t mean that if you have a bad day, you will go back to square one. We are human beings after all, and like the tide, we have our ebb and flow with our energy. If you don’t feel good today, that’s fine. It is a practice. Do better the next day. It is an incremental feeling. And the happier you are right now, the greater is the guarantee that your desires will finally manifest in your reality.

5. Live in the end result.

Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand.
– Bob Proctor

One of the masters of the law of attraction, Neville Goddard, has been manifesting his heart’s desires by living each day as if he already has it in front of him – even if it’s not. His technique entails overlooking the reality of right now and focusing on how it feels if you have already achieved your desired result.

For it to work for you, create a mantra that will help show you that you already have your wish granted. You can say to yourself, “It’s wonderful that I am now a registered nurse.” Mantras are to be repeated and follow through until it feels natural. You’ll eventually start to believe that your desire is achievable to come into reality.

6. Be grateful.

Be grateful for what you already have while you pursue your goals.
If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more.
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

Be thankful for the little things even though it may seem bleak in your situation. Let’s say your grades in nursing school are plummeting down, there are still many things in your life you can be grateful for. A study has shown that showing gratitude can make you happier. The more you love what life is giving you, then the more life will insist on giving you more good things to love.

7. Learn to let go.

Last night I lost the world, and gained the universe.
― C. JoyBell C.

Letting go is where almost everyone has a struggle with when one is just starting the practice of the law of attraction. Letting go doesn’t equate to giving up on your desire, it only means letting go of the negative energy surrounding your desire. Remember that focus is the key in manifesting your wishes.

It’s only natural to feel fear and anxiety when a big event is looming ahead. For example, you’re about to take the NCLEX one week from now, you’ll feel that fear creeping your heart. Learn to surrender that fear and let go of the doubts. Always remember that the universe has heard you the first time you stated your desires, and know that your desire is on your way. Trust in the process. Trust in the law. Let it go. And it will come to you.
